Aizu Wakamatsu preserves its old town and is known as Samurai City. Tsuruga Castle serves as the city’s main tourist landmark.

And surrounding this castle, you will be able to find several historical sites related to the Byakkotai or Shinsengumi, a retro street with Meiji and Taisho period feel called Nanokamachi, and many more.

The city also offers a diverse range of traditional hands-on activities such as Aizu lacquerware, Aizuhongo pottery, painted candles, and Akabeko painting.

Aizu region is also famous for its hot spring. Hot spring villages Higashiyama Onsen and Ashinomaki Onsen boasts more than 1300 years of history, and is ranked number 1 and number 2 most famous hot spring destination in the region.
