Retreat to a luxurious
traditional Japanese house
This historical traditional Japanese mansion
has been fully refurbished
In one of the snowiest places in the country stands an impressive building that draws the eye. "ryugon" was named after a temple of the same name which was built on the ground where once Sakado Castle stood around 200 years ago at the foot of Mount Sakado. The building is now known as a nationally designated cultural property. In the summer of 2019 the old Ryugon took on a new lease of life as ryugon, an accommodation where you could come to experience the culture of one of Japanese snowiest regions.
ryugon is listed in the Michelin Guide 2020 Niigata in the ryokan category and recognized as a three red pavilion ryokan, where the number of pavilions indicates that ryugon is a "very comfortable" ryokan, and the red color of the pavilions counts it among one of the MICHELIN Guide's "most delightful places."
