Takehara is known as "Little Kyoto of Aki". This old town has a historical temple, a beautiful mansion of a wealthy merchant that prospered in the early Edo period by making salt and sake, and many other interesting sites. The townscape has a traditional atmosphere and makes you feel as if you have traveled back in time. There are 117 areas designated as preservation districts in Japan, in which many of them are called castle towns and merchant towns. However Takehara Town Conservation Area is the only town recognized as salt town.

Rich ingredients grows in the natural and warm climate of Setouchi. Shu Ishii, a leading figure in the Kansai French who was active in the Grand Maison in Switzerland and won numerous awards after returning to Japan, is involved as the group's grand chef and creates new dishes that convey the culture of Takehara. Through a variety of dishes with carefully selected salt and expanding the enjoyment of pairing with sake, you can feel the chic lifestyle of Hama-danna, who developed Takehara as a cultural city.

The dishes are made from plenty of local ingredients such as seasonal ingredients from Setouchi, carefully selected by the chef including the Takehara brand "Togeshita beef". Enjoy a new gastronomic experience that combines the Japanese and French cuisine.

The MOSO building which was built in the Meiji era used to be the former Geibi Bank (currently Hiroshima Bank) and then operated as the former Suigi Ryokan. It is a unique building that retains the two features of a bank and an inn.

There is only one executive room in the MOSO building. It is a truly special room where you can feel the atmosphere of a Japanese house. It is flat and has large windows for a spacious and comfortable stay. The tea room and the porch at the end of the passageway creates an extraordinary and luxurious space.

The KIKKO building was used as a sake brewery during the Meiji era, and as a former Mizude residence that supported the liveliness of Takehara from the Taisho era to the Showa era as an entertainment facility such as billiard hall. 

There is a total of 9 standard rooms; 4 in the KIKKO building and 5 in the MOSO building. There is also a converted room from a building that was once used as a warehouse into a guest room where you can have a private stay. The rooms consists of a loft-type room with a total of four single beds, or a Western-style room with a Hollywood twin made up of double beds. The rooms are decorated with appreciation for the famous local bamboo, white color to express salt and sake brewing malt, blue color to express the sea of ​​Setouchi.

Access:

By flight

Take a limousine bus from Hiroshima Airport to Takehara Station (approximately 30 minutes). The hotel is approximately 10 minutes walk from Takehara Station.

By public transportation

・Take the Sanyo Shinkansen to Hiroshima Station, then take the Kaguyahime Line on Geiyo Bus from Hiroshima Station to Takehara Station (approximately 1 hour). The hotel is approximately 10 minutes walk from Takehara Station.

OR

・Take the JR Kure Line from Hiroshima Station to Takehara Station (approximately 100 minutes). The hotel is approximately 10 minutes walk from Takehara Station.

By car

Take the Sanyo Expressway to Kawachi IC, and continue driving along the National Route 432 for approximately 20 minutes.

Bamboo craft making experience with local craftsmen

<Tour Overview>

You can experience making a bamboo basket by assembling thin bamboo pieces one by one. At the bamboo workshop, local craftsmen will give you a detailed lesson. You can make your own handmade bamboo crafts and a windmill as souvenirs. This is the workshop making bamboo windmills which gained popularity from being on JAL's TV commercial with famous pop band Arashi in 2019. There are also other types of craft making experiences which you could try with an additional fee;

Setouchi Cruising

Hop on a boat tour around the historic islands of Setouchi. With this cruise charter plan, you could enjoy the scenic islands of Setouchi including Okunoshima also known as the Rabbit Island, and Osakikamijima which is rich in nature. You can consult us about the route and fully enjoy the charm of the inland sea of ​​Setouchi and the beauty of archipelago.

Visit and experience the salt farm for oysters

At FARM SUZUKI, you could join a oyster farming tour and experience at the one and only salt farming site in Japan. The farm is a pond at the site of a salt farm on Osakikamijima, a remote island in the Seto Inland Sea. In order to protect the ecosystem of the salt pans where various creatures coexist, and to farm while paying attention to the environmental protection of the pond, mass production is not possible. However, with FARM SUZUKI's farming method; the oysters, prawns, and clams grow healthy and delicious.

  • The content of the experience varies depending on the season (Jun-Oct: Oyster and prawn seedling observation, Nov-Feb: Oyster harvest)

  • One drink is included for the oyster and prawn tasting

Pottery making and painting experience

You can enjoy a pottery making experience made from clay and a painting experience that you can easily enjoy regardless of age. In the pottery making workshop, you can create a cup, a bowl, or a plate our of 500g of clay. In the painting workshop, you can paint your own design on a cup, a bowl, or a plate. Or you could try your hands at both experiences!

  • The rates do not include the transportation fee between the accommodation and your residence.

  • Check-in time is between 15:00 and 19:00, and check-out time is at 12:00. If you arrive after 19:00, please contact us in advance.

  • Your booking confirmation will be sent within 1-2 business days.

  • We will ask you to complete the payment after the booking has been confirmed.

  • There are some inconveniences such as the restaurant on the 2nd floor. Please let us know in advance if you have walking difficulty.

  • As the rooms were designed to preserve the historical building in its former state, the heat insulation and air tightness is not so high.

  • To allow all guests to enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese house, modern equipments emitting bright lights such as the TV or clock are not placed in the room.

  • You may be asked to present your residence card as proof of identification upon check-in.

  • Please be sure to check "the Go to Travel compliance policy" in advance.
